Dr Shereen Daniels is considered one of the top business experts in HR and racial equity. She’s a compassionate and charismatic influencer, best selling author and the Managing Director of HR rewired, an advisory firm that specialises in anti-racism and racial equity. Shereen is also Chair of the African Diaspora Economic Inclusion Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to supporting female entrepreneurs of Afro-Caribbean heritage.
Having provided design support for HR rewired, Shereen came to me asking for help to create a personal brand for herself with the aim of promoting and talking about her experience around racial equity. Driving the anti-racism conversation forward and into our offices, factories, retail spaces – and homes – with real momentum. Shereen’s approach for tackling the complex, nuanced and often uncomfortable dialogue needed a bold approach that ‘pulls no punches’ in her own words.
The initial scope of the project was to create the visual branding. This later expanded in to social media assets and templates, book launch materials, including invites, socials, additional book resources and apparel.
A lot of thought went into how best to create a bold logo for Shereen that encompassed her personality and the cause. The end result was a striking monogram which cleverly housed an equals symbol within the negative space. With the monogram agreed, we set about pairing this with an equally strong typeface and colour palette. This combination packed a punch and hit the right notes with Shereen.
The book launch went down a storm with lots of positive feedback on the branding. Photographer, Caitlin Mogridge took a whole host of event photos on the night, along with a follow-up studio shoot. This provided us with library of photos, which we used throughout social media and additional support materials.
Since the launch, Shereen has been making waves on social media, amassing tens of thousands of followers and increasing the reach of her messaging.
